Welcome to the HEALTH BASICS 101! Class is now in session!
I thought I would take a little time every morning over the next week or so, to remind/educate us about basic health, fitness and nutrition topics. I plan to use a variety of formats (videos, text, pictures, etc..).
I WELCOME questions, either about the information provided, or if you have a burning question you’d like addressed. You can always private message me with anything!

Day 1: GOALS
In our health and fitness journeys, there are a variety of goals that we might be focusing on. They usually revolve around three main topics.
1. Lose weight.
2. Make advances in our fitness.
3. Regaining or promoting our health.
This last goal is the one I want to focus on today!
The bottom line is, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in all women (yes, more than breast cancer). Someone in the U.S. suffers from a heart attack every 43 seconds, and another dies from heart disease every minute. The prevalence of diabetes is also on the rise, and over 115 million people in the US have either prediabetes, or are diagnosed with diabetes.
The two leading risk factors for both of these diseases:
1. Sedentary lifestyle
2. Poor nutrition.
(FYI – smoking isn’t far behind)
The real take home message is that these diseases can be PREVENTED. Yes, I do know that genetics play a factor (trust me, I have some genes that make me more prone to both of these diseases). But the reality is many cases of heart disease and diabetes can he helped or prevented with good nutrition and a healthy dose of physical activity.
This video is one of my all time favorites on the topic! It is worth it. Check it out when you have a spare 10 minutes today!
